Earth Month Kids Contest 2012 Winners

The winners of the 2012, “Kids Growing Greener” Mid-Columbia Earth Month contest are as follows:

The Grand Prize award of $250 goes to three siblings from Liberty Christian School. Triplets, Aarti, Arjun and Akshut Sahai won for their instructional and educational video, “The 3 Musketeers Go Green”.

First place for the Kindergarten – 5th grade individual essay goes to Tanvi Tandon from White Bluffs Elementary School. His educational essay, “The Earth Matters” can also be performed as a skit. He receives $100.

First place in the K-5 group video category and winner of $150 is for a song written and performed by Cottonwood Elementary School’s Mojo Marimba Band. The music video, “Pick up the Trash,” was also voted as the top pick of all entries from an on-line vote for People’s Choice or Fan Favorite award. It received 45% of the votes.

 

First place in the 6th – 8th grade individual video category goes to Milla Roberts for “20-minutes in the Life of a Plastic Bag.” Milla, who is homeschooled in Kennewick, followed a plastic shopping bag from the grocery store to home and then to the trash. She calculated it “lived” for 20 minutes. She also performed the instrumental background music that accompanied the video. Milla earned $100.

 

The group award in the same category goes to three girls from McLaughlin Middle School. The video, “Pasco’s Totally Awesome Earth Cleaners: The Sequel,” features Meg Nelson, Kali Sauressig and Logan Jackson who will share $150.
