Two day 11 lesson course where you will learn the basics of responsible beekeeping. $60.

Taught by local experienced beekeepers, and weather permitting a demonstration of live honey bees, by Mid-Columbia Beekeepers Association

 

Doors open at 8:30am and class starts at 9am SHARP.

 

Includes:

 

  • 1 Year Membership in MCBA

Course will cover the basics of these topics:

 

Day 1 - March 17th

 

  • Four Rules for Successful Beekeeping
  • Basic Honey Bee Biology
  • Beekeeping Equipment and Being a Good Bee Neighbor
  • Brief History of Beekeeping and Laws
  • Spring Management
  • Swarming

 

Day 2 - March 24th

 

  • Summer Management
  • Honey Production and Pollination
  • Fall Management
  • Winter Management
  • Diseases and Pests

 

Recommending but Optional:

 

You are encouraged to bring your own protective veil or beekeeper suit to get up close during the hive demonstration portion of the class. There will be a viewing area at a distance for those without face protection. Veils and other protective equipment will be available for purchase at Ranch and Home.
